As a parent I find this a difficult topic to address. On the one hand I felt myself drawn to alcohol at a young age due to its restriction by my parents. Several of my friends were allowed alcohol (small amounts) as teenagers with dinner or special events. I noticed growing up those individuals did not seem to hang out with those crowds using alcohol at various functions. They are also not drinkers today. Could it be giving alcohol to your "adult" teen teaches them responsibility? Makes it less taboo? It seems the opposite would be true but education is key. Limiting your children to no access to alcohol before they turn 21 seems like filling a dam and then opening the flood gates and binge drinking.
