Like NYC, L.A. is a highly populated city with a rich and diverse culture. In fact, the first AA meeting that occurred in the state of California took place in Los Angeles, in 1939. With such a rich history in the Alcoholics Anonymous fellowship, it is no wonder that there are plenty of resources to be found (online and otherwise) regarding Los Angeles AA.
The Los Angeles Area AA Central Office (LACOAA) is one of the most prominent organizations in the realm of Alcoholics Anonymous in L.A. The Los Angeles Area AA Central Office describes AA as, “a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.”

The Los Angeles AA organization states, “The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.“
