I am a 59 year old man who has been drinking in various amounts since the age of 14. Until the past few years it was never a problem. I always was what could be referred to as the proverbial "Good-time Charlie". I was able to consume large amounts of alcohol and if I was partying, could be counted upon to do so. However, it wasn't until I began using alcohol to drown sorrows that it became a true problem. I simply did not want to sober up and of course one cannot function on a daily basis in such a condition. It came to a point where it was no longer just a bad choice. Getting sober soon became an impossibility due to symptoms like the DT's, cold sweats, nausea and constant shaking just to cite a few. Ten hospital stays in 2009 due to diabetes complicated with alcoholism finally convinced me that I needed professional help that I sought from a rehab in San Diego. I have had two minor relapses since rehab. They were isolated incidents in which I consumed not nearly the heroic amounts that I was once capable of, but the fact is they happened and put a serious dent in my self-confidence.

I am studying at the University of Kentucky to go to medical school and become a psychiatrist. I would like to write an essay for my midterm on your blog site. In order for me to do this, myself and my partner need to interview a poster on the website. After looking through many blogs, I have found a special interest and beautiful vibe coming from your blog.
