A Brave New Alcoholics Anonymous

Back when Bill was having a hard time and AA was a twinkle in his eye, the idea that people could gather in support and understanding seemed both logical and necessary. Today, AA has grown and is recognized worldwide as a leader in helping those in need to regain some of what they might have lost(even prosper) as a result of the self-medicating nature of the addictive mind. Bill would be proud.

The tenets of AA clearly state no affiliation with any sect, denomination, political entity, etc… Unfortunately, things have become a little skewed. In the name of righteousness, and a desire by the government to impose their will on the general public, Alcoholics Anonymous has allowed itself to become ‘joined at the hip’ with the legal system in this country. The mandate to attend meetings (for DUI offenders and such) flies in the face of what Bill envisioned and is contra-indicative to the preamble. You are the willing recipients of this forced mandate. To take no action is an action. You allow it, you condone it,… you are complicit. Denying affiliation does not absolve you of responsibility.

If I cooperate with a bank robber but don’t agree with their actions, I still go to jail. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have any problem with your connection to law enforcement. I do, however, have a problem with your ‘claim’ to be neutral. If you truly were neutral, none of you would be signing anything. The pamphlet itself, ‘So, you’ve been sent to…’ reeks of a government dictate endorsed by AA. This is politics at its most vile. I doubt Bill would be proud.

There is a way to stave-off the funk of government directives, remain true to your creed, and re-establish the sanctity of AA. Immediately and with fervor, sever all ties between AA and any governmental entities… demand it, or forever be known as The Brave New(and usually) Anonymous Alcoholics.

Hi,

I am interested in guest blogging on your website. Is this something you are open to? If so, what is the next step? Also, is there any cost/fee associated with it?

Thanks,

Kelly

The 12 step program in our area is manipulated by a select number from the area. I live in a small community and the groups in our area are all headed very intently by a select number of people. I have had a personal problem with a select member of that group going to my husband work place and disclosing information about him that is suppose to be anonymous at the meetings and he goes further than that. He has shared information about many others from the group with us when we thought he was helping us and we told him to stop that that was not okay. I have a problem with the AA groups in our area because they only base their program on GOD and then those GOD like addicts in recovery for a supposed long period of time are trying to manipulate and blackmail us into their world of compliance.

I just have no where to go for help.
